About German Biochar e.V.
German Biochar was founded in 2017, originally as the “Fachverband Pflanzenkohle”, with the goal of supporting the use of biochar and contributing to environmental protection by removing carbon from the atmosphere. Together with our members, we advocate for the sustainable production and use of biochar. We see ourselves as partners for science, practice, technical plant developers, and policymakers.
Areas of Work
Politics
Political frameworks are the foundation of our work. Government funding for climate farming is our goal. We are actively involved in the areas of fertilizer and soil protection regulations, organic farming, and feed legislation.
Science and Research
Change requires science and research. The insights gained through research need to be applied. Our goal is to bridge the gap and ensure that biochar is used sustainably and effectively—positively impacting the environment, animals, and humans.
Public Relations
Social acceptance is the wind in the sails for political enforcement. The focus of our communication is on honest and comprehensive education about the diverse applications and potential of biochar.
Quality Management
Not all coal is the same. And even biochar is offered with significant quality differences. The market needs transparency. That’s why we are working on quality standards for biochar production and the biomass used.
